A Message from Co-Hosts

“Physicians graduating from AWSOM will be comfortable with advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. These tools will be revolutionary in broadening access to health care across rural America, and it’s critically important that we begin these conversations here in the Heartland."
Alice Walton
Philanthropist and Founder, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine and Heartland Whole Health Institute

"AI represents a giant leap forward for disease prevention, offering unprecedented opportunities to improve our health. And perhaps the greatest potential lies within communities like Northwest Arkansas.
Through this forum, we aim to show how innovative communities, paired with new technology, can build a healthier future for all.”
Lloyd Minor, MD
Dean of the School of Medicine
Vice President for Medical Affairs, Stanford University

“At AWSOM, we're creating ways to transform the future of medical education and impact the health care industry through our graduates. Artificial intelligence and other medical technologies will serve critical roles in moving medicine forward in the coming years. Advancements are evolving rapidly and events like this help us stay at the forefront of emerging technologies that can be leveraged for better health outcomes.”
Sharmila Makhija, MD, MBA
Founding Dean and CEO
Alice L. Walton School of Medicine
Location
It’s no surprise that proud Arkansans Alice Walton and Lloyd Minor, MD, chose Bentonville, Arkansas, as the location for this crucial forum and not Silicon Valley.
The event will be held in the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, founded by Alice Walton in 2011. Just 15 miles away from Northwest Arkansas International Airport (XNA) and surrounded by the rolling hills and forests of the Ozark Plateau, this “Innovation Capital of the Heartland” is also home to the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine.
Locations like Northwest Arkansas stand to benefit enormously from the AI revolution starting to unfold as groundbreaking technology finds a home in rural America.
At this transformative moment, the region’s unique challenges and successes in pioneering AI for health hold profound implications for the U.S. and beyond.
Through this gathering of thinkers, innovators, and investors, incredible things can happen. New ideas, new relationships, and—we hope—the start of new initiatives that ensure AI benefits all of us.
We invite you to join us as we discuss the exciting possibilities and realities ahead and get a glimpse of what the future might hold.
